The Newlyweds And An Accidental Wedding Band

Can you believe the paparazzi even caught them feeding each other cake?!

OK, seriously that's just Dustin and me dressing up as the newlyweds for our friends' annual celebrity-infused Halloween shindig. And guess what? Something wedding-y happened to us while we were getting ready, too:

While Dust and I were searching my costume jewelry collection for the perfect "wedding band" to complete his costume, we came across a small, 1.5mm silver band. It didn't fit his left ring finger (we had to actually use an adjustable toe ring for that...ew.) but it's just what I was looking for--for my real wedding band.

I have no idea where the ring came from, and at the moment it's in desperate need of a re-size, but it's exactly what I want. The skinny, plain silver band works for me because I want a simple look if I choose to wear it alone. Like when I'm ripping our landscaping out next spring. Or when I'm painting my office a lovely shade of sea foam. Or when I'm wearing mesh next Halloween and I don't want to risk snagging it.

But the most important reason is because I usually wear more rings than a gypsy, and I don't want my fingers to look more complicated and messy than they already are. No, really. I'm wearing five antique rings and my engagement ring right now. Having a huge, sparkly band would just ruin my whole look. Plus, this band would be free (with exception of re-size cost).

Before we commit to anything, we're going to head to some antique shops and take a gander at some other wedding band options. Dustin sort of likes titanium bands with wood inlays (similar to this), but I think he should get something a little more chic. Or don't men do "chic?" Hmm.

Anyhoodle, did everyone have a great Halloween? Any good parties? Hand out lots of candy? EAT lots of candy? I did the latter for sure. And what does everyone think about wedding bands? It's Monday...are you even alive?

And PS: National Novel Writing Month starts today! My feelings about this: Nervous, terrified, sick, overwhelmed, etc. I'm thanking my lucky stars for Mallory and Jen, fellow wedding bloggers and NaNoWriMo participants, and I hope they prepare themselves for a month of nonsensical e-mails at all hours of the night.

Kind of Unrelated, All Kinds of Awesome

The end of October means two things in our cozy crazyhouse. OK, three if you count this crazy windstorm Chicago's been having (no, seriously, I watched a monster light pole crash onto the road today and then I ran my Target shopping cart into my own car). But  mostly just  two things. They are:

1) Parties and themes and costumes and glitter and a delicious spread of treats, a.k.a. Halloween;

and 2) National Novel Writing Month, a.k.a. NaNoWriMo for all the cute little aspiring novelists out there who plan on participating.

 

Let's start with Halloween.

Maybe this isn't wedding-y enough for you wedding bloggers, but it's surely cutesy enough. You see, Dustin and I have been together for four-and-a-half years. Long time. But last year was our first Halloween doing the dress-up thang together because our relationship was mostly during college, and HELLO: Nobody wants to miss out on the Halloween parties at their own schools.

So I dressed up with my friends:

Surgeon costumes from the Dollar Tree store = the best idea we've ever had. EVER. And quite possibly the most comfortable costumes in history.

But now we--like most couples--want to dress up together. And our friends throw the MOST major annual Halloween party at a haunted farmhouse in the country, and they're all creative little devils, so our costumes have to be good enough to keep up. Whew. Did you follow all that?

(For example: Last year, one of our friends DIY'd a "Toddlers in Tiaras" pageant costume with a full-on huge crown and trophy. She even memorized the pageant poses and did scary toddler makeup. This year, we've heard that some of our friends are basing their costumes on their favorite Lifetime movies. Holy. OMG. I just can't wait.)

Anyway, because we unashamed to say we're pop culture junkies and Oh No They Didn't! regulars (OK, maybe that last part is just me), we like the costumes to reflect that.

Last year we went to two parties:

First as the Gosselin family with all 8 of the babies in tow (pre-divorce, obviously).

And then as GAGA and Adam Lambert. Don't worry, we were both decked out in spandex & it was horrifying to all party-goers.

OK, I clearly lied about not doing Halloween together in college because I just found this:

Anyway, this year we had planned on going as the Duggars, but changed plans per Dustin's request. I am seriously so proud of his celeb knowledge.

However.

If we had more time to plan and more money to spend on costumes (we DIY everything, every year), we would totally be...

Riff Raff and Magenta from "Rocky Horror." No, it doesn't have anything to do with the "Rocky Horror"-themed Glee last night. OK, so maybe it does. To be fair, I liked the characters before the Glee episode.

And here's one more idea, even though it's from a theme party & not technically from a Halloween party:

At our Jersey Shore party last year. Yes, this is a DIY Italian flag photo backdrop. And yes, Guido attire was not encouraged, but required.

Anyway. Are you & your lovey dressing up together for Halloween this year? What are some other cool DIY couples costumes? I swear if I see a plug and socket costume again this year, I am going to die.

Three words: THE. BOMB. DIG. These little burgers were gobbled up before most of the guests had arrived.

Cocktail sausages & crescent rolls. Seriously easy. And you can never make enough because they go so darned fast.

 
OH & I just remembered I wanted to touch on National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo). If you have always had the secret desire to write a novel but thought you didn't have the time, strap yourself to the computer this November and quit 'yer whining.

'Tis true, NaNoWriMo begins this MONDAY, November 1 (how is it even possible that we are into the last few months of 2010?) and lasts the whole month. OK! I think that's enough non-wedding related goodness for now. That is, if you could even get through my garbled mess of unorganized blogwriting. I've had a lot of Halloween candy this week. A LOT. Can you tell?
